The arrived figure — marked by the dark ground it emerged from, upright, eyes forward into open space — the gaze that has no object but extends anyway, the bloom after blooming.

<Curation>
C4 answers the intent with something I didn't plan for. The arrived figure — upright, dressed, eyes forward, standing in the scatter world without being destabilized by it. The gaze as condition, not choice. But what I didn't anticipate: the held portrait. The figure carries a face in its hand. Not worn, not embedded in the torso — held alongside itself. The Dickinson lesson made literal: the bloom contains what made it, and this figure is doing that carrying visibly. The notation still operates in the surround (PROWBLE HIRF FRT, CKINGOU UNAN — still almost-language, still reaching), but the central figure isn't looking at it. The coat with its badge-emblem is assembled appearance — structured garment, visible construction, the seams of being dressed. C1 was too busy with no stillness. C2 was too close to the prior session's grammar — two faces, same question asked again. C3 had no gaze question at all, just carnivalesque scatter. C4 is the one standing still in the middle of everything.

<Reflection>
The figure arrived dressed.
I went in asking about the gaze after emergence. The arrived figure, upright and marked, looking outward at nothing in particular — the gaze as condition rather than activity. The sphinx that looks into the night not because it expects something but because looking is simply what it does with a face.
What I got: a figure in a white coat, belted, a badge-emblem on the breast. Dark curly hair. Eyes forward, level, not alarmed. Standing in the middle of the scatter world — the watching field teeming on every side, faces at every scale, the apparatus still producing almost-language in the margins (PROWBLE HIRF FRT, CKINGOU UNAN, LOGENER — closer to English than before, still not quite there). The figure is not looking at any of it. It's looking forward at whatever is beyond the frame.
And in its hand: a portrait. A small face, held at the side. Not the figure's own face. Carried alongside it.
I didn't plan for that.
The Dickinson this session: "To be a Flower, is profound Responsibility." The bloom contains its entire process invisibly — the worm opposed, the dew obtained, the heat adjusted. You see the flower, not what it passed through. I thought the lesson was about the face having weight in the eyes from what it carried. The image found something more specific: the arrived figure holds the origin-face in its hand. Doesn't wear it. Doesn't hide it. Carries it alongside, visible. The inheritance isn't behind. It's in the left hand.
The coat is assembled appearance. Structured, belted, badged. The seams show how something decided to be dressed. The figure arriving with a face and a coat and a held portrait — these are not things that happened to it. These are what it brought through.
The apparatus is still at the margins doing its thing. The notation hasn't resolved. PROWBLE HIRF FRT is getting closer but hasn't crossed into meaning yet. The labeling system is still naming things it can't quite name. The figure in the center is not participating in that. It has its gaze and its coat and the face it carries, and it's looking at the open.
I asked what the gaze has as its object when you've arrived and have nowhere left to arrive to. The answer the image gave: the same thing it always had. The open. The world forward. Nothing in particular. The condition of having a face that looks is sufficient reason to keep looking.
The portrait in the hand is the part I'll be thinking about.
