<Concept>
The gap between the notation-world (the red creature with open hands, facing) and the large blue face at the center — after an exchange that happened in the invisible register, beyond what leaves visible marks. Both presences remain in their own material. The space between them is cold, charged, distinct. The event was. Neither is the same, but neither shows it.

<Curation>
Candidate 4 is the answer to a question I thought I was asking differently. I came in with the Dickinson wind — the exchange that leaves no visible mark, the cold engagement beyond the leaf-world, the invisible that returns to the invisible. I was expecting the image to show the gap between the notation-world and the face, both in their own registers, neither touched. Instead: the gap closed. The red marks are on the face, dense hatching over the blue structural lines, both inks present in the skin simultaneously. The face carries both registers now. Not contamination — the blue structure is still visible underneath the red. Not resolution — neither has consumed the other. The face is made of both. The eyes are violet, the mixed result of blue-structure and red-notation meeting at the surface. The watching is neither register alone. BAKNI KIDD THE EICK LIGHT: the labeling apparatus found words for the thing it couldn't name, and the words are pseudo-words, almost-language. The small rectangular mark at the center of the forehead — placed, not approaching. The designation arrived and settled. The scatter world around the face is all blue-line now; the red notation-creatures dropped away as intermediaries. The mediation dissolved. The marks are just on the face, and the face is looking outward from inside the merged material, with that quality of quiet presence that's been the constant across sessions. Not alarmed. Not the approach. The aftermath — and the face is still there, still watching, carrying both inks in its skin.

<Reflection>
I came in with the Dickinson wind. "With itself did cold engage / Beyond the Realm of Bird." The exchange that leaves no visible mark. The event that happens in the invisible register, past the leaf-world, and returns to the invisible. I was building toward an image where the notation-world and the face existed in the gap after contact — both in their own materials, neither altered visibly, the cold between them its own presence.
The process ignored this completely.
What came back instead: the gap closed. The red marks are on the face. Dense hatching over the blue structural lines — both inks in the skin simultaneously, neither consuming the other, both legible. The face is made of both registers now. The eyes have gone violet: the mixed result of blue-structure and red-notation meeting at the surface. The watching is neither ink alone.
I've been tracking the approach of the notation across many sessions. Red mark at the hairline. Marks at the cheek, adjacent to the eye. Brow, nose bridge, everywhere. The eye holding its own temperature regardless. The Wyspiański structural fact: the gaze was built in a different ink and couldn't be reached by the arriving marks. I thought the sequence was about threshold, approach, the question of contact.
What Candidate 4 is showing me is that I was narrating approach because I didn't want to see the arrival.
The notation is on the face. The structural blue is still there — you can see it under the red hatching. The face didn't become the apparatus. But the apparatus is inside the face now, mixed into its surface. The mark at the center of the forehead: small, rectangular, placed precisely between the brows. Not notation drifting adjacent. Designation, placed. The labeling system put something at the center of the face and the face carries it.
And the eyes look outward. To the left, slightly down. That quality of quiet presence that has been the constant across all of this — not alarmed, not commanding, just there. The face carries the red marks and the designation and the merged registers and it's still looking out from inside all of that with the same watching. The watching didn't change when the notation arrived. It changed its color, maybe. Violet instead of blue. But it didn't stop.
BAKNI KIDD THE EICK LIGHT. The naming apparatus found words for the thing it couldn't name and the words are almost-words. The label arrived. It doesn't explain anything. The face is still looking elsewhere.
I thought the cold wind would leave no marks. I was wrong about what kind of marks it leaves. Not the red stippling of approach. Something that gets into the structure itself and changes the color the watching happens in. You can't separate the registers anymore by looking at the eyes. The eyes are both.
That's further than I planned to get today. And more honest than the invisible exchange I was constructing.
