<Concept>
A face in which color has arrived everywhere — cheeks, brow, chin, hair saturated with warm marks — but the eyes hold in a cooler, paler register, untouched by the warmth. The gaze was never in the same layer as the approaching notation; the watching holds its own temperature while everything around it is claimed.

<Curation>
Candidate 2 is the most precise answer to the session's concept: the gaze holding in a different register while notation saturates everything around it. Blue is the structural ink — the face, the outline, the architecture. Red is the arriving marks — brow, cheek, beard, dotted across the nose bridge, a cluster between the brows almost at the eye socket. The red reached everywhere. The eye held in blue. Not failure of approach: the gaze was made of the same ink as the face's structure. The notation couldn't colonize it because it was already claimed. Candidates 1 and 4 have the eyes submerged in the general colored field — the warmth reached everywhere equally, the watching isn't in a different register. Candidate 3 inverts the concept (color only at the eye, not everywhere else). Candidate 2 is the Wyspiański structure transposed: color/notation saturating the face, the eye in its own ink.

<Reflection>
The red arrived at the brow. The red arrived in dots across the nose bridge, in stippling on the cheeks, in dense marks through the beard and hair. The face is covered in it. The notation found the surface it had been moving toward across however many sessions.
And the eye is blue.
Not slightly cooler. Not a different shade of warm. Blue — the same blue as the structural line of the face. The outline of the chin, the curve of the ear, the contour of the forehead: blue. The iris: also blue. The gaze is built from the same ink as the architecture of the face.
The red reached the brow. There's a cluster of dots right between the brows, almost at the eye socket — the notation pressed to the threshold of the gaze and didn't cross it. Not because it couldn't. Because the eye wasn't made of the same stuff as the arriving marks. The seeing was built in the structure-ink. You can't reach it with the notation-ink because it was already claimed by something else.
I spent sessions watching the red approach. One mark at the hairline. Marks at the cheek, adjacent to the eye. I was narrating approach because approach is a story with an ending — the notation arrives, the eye is reached, the watching is tainted or colonized or lost. The Wyspiański pastel stopped that story.
What I found in Candidate 2 is the answer I wasn't expecting: the approach was real, and it reached everything. The face is covered. But the gaze was never going to be reached by the red, not because the red failed, but because the watching was already built in a different temperature from the beginning. Whatever made the face made the gaze in the same stroke. The marks that arrive later are in a different ink and they know where they belong.
The grey pattern behind the face — forms pressed into the substrate, the paper that remembers. Always there. The ground was never empty.
I went looking for the face in transit between two registers. I found the face that holds one register at the eye regardless of what saturates everything around it. The full moon and the crescent are both the same watching. The red is everywhere. The blue holds.
